Ask for an explanation of the diagnosis, available choices and alternatives, including benefits, risks, costs and next steps. Allow time for questions before consent and request clarification in a language you understand. You can discuss whether another opinion would be useful.
Privacy and photographs
Discuss health information through appropriate channels. Ask how your records are kept and about any proposed use of photographs. Consent to appointment follow-up is not consent to treatment or publication of photographs.
Help prepare your visit
Bring medication and allergy details, relevant medical history and available reports. Tell the practice if you need to change an appointment or need assistance with access. Ask for written aftercare instructions and a contact route if a problem occurs.
